Geography
Greece is located in the Balkan peninsula bordered by Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Turkey. The country has ten geographical regions divided into thirteen peripheries and fifty districts. Mainland is mainly mountainous apart from the plains of Thessalia, Thessaloniki and Thrace. The highest mountain is Mount Olympus, which rises to 2917 meters and is in the province of Thessaly. The largest lake is Triconidh, and the longest river is Alikmon. The largest cities are: Athens, Thessaloniki, Piraeus, Patras, Heraklion, Kavala, Alexandroupolis, Corinth and others.
History
Greek culture is one of the world’s earliest civilizations. Greece Population another in prehistoric times. It has a history of over 3,000 years, beginning from the Bronze Age and includes the construction of the Minoan, Mycenaean civilization and Cycladic culture. Then it went to the classical Greek, Hellenistic period, the Romanian Empire, Byzantine, medieval Crusades, Hointzianim and the Turks and finally the modern era and the war of independence of Greece in 1821.
Climate
The climate in Greece is a Mediterranean climate. Although many places in northern Greece have a very cold winter with lots of snow, in places like ski resorts open for visitors to attract travelers to the area of winter. In the summer can be very hot especially on the continent. Greek islands on the other hand has a mild climate due north summer winds called Meltemi.
