Stratos Dionisiou was born in November 8, 1935. At the age of 13 he was orphaned from his father. Ηe start to work as tailor and married at age 20 to Georgia Laveni and later born to them 4 children. Dionisiou at this time was still worked as tailor, he appeared also in the nightclubs in Thessaloniki as singer. Later he left from Athens to Thessaloniki and moved to develop a successful career as a singer.
In 1959 he recorded his first song. The great composer Mimis Plessas came into the picture and he composed the song “vrehi fotia sti strata mou”, the lyrics were written by Lefteris Papadopoulos. Dionisiou went to the US with great success growing and growing. And suddenly when his career was at the peak he was arrested on suspicion of holding weapons and drugs illegally. He was sentenced to two years in prison and served them in the city Argolis in Greece. Dionisiou While in prison he started recording a new album and went on release in 1976.
In 1980 he successfully passed from laika to more western-style called “Alafro Laika” and enjoys great popularity with the younger crowd. Both of his sons, Stelios Dionisiou and Aggelos Dionisiou developed their own musical career.
Stratus Dionisiou died on 11 May 1990 at the age of 54.
